On July 18, 2019, over 60 Jaffa employees once again set a-sail for our annual Evening of Employee Appreciation off the New York Harbor. The event celebrated over 20 years of great service to NYC’s biggest property owners and managers and looked towards the future for better ways to help our clients stay compliant, save money, and resolve their violations.

Starrett City – Festivities were in the air at Spring Creek Towers in Eastern Brooklyn this past Sunday August 4th. Children and their families gathered on the basketball courts outside the Brooklyn Sports Club on Van Siclen Avenue for the JaffaCares Safety Sunday. There were hundreds of bicycle helmets and over a thousand stove knob safety covers available for residents to collect free of charge.

Mr. Jack Jaffa of Jack Jaffa and Associates who sponsored the day and the giveaways said, “Our mission is all about safety, and this event, just like the others we’ve done before, are the natural outcome of the safety work we do every single day.” State Senator Roxanne Persaud was in attendance as well to show her support for the initiative.

In addition to the giveaways, the NYPD was there registering bikes, and the FDNY had a booth to distribute safety information. A fire truck made an appearance for the children to meet the firemen and to take photos with them and their truck.

The highlight of the day was a high-octane basketball game played with law enforcement and first responders while being coached by the teens of the neighborhood. Mr. Michael Hernandez, formerly of the NYPD and now a local security officer of SCT said of the game, “this was a profound opportunity to be able to interact with the people we’re paid to protect, and the comradery was amazing.”

JaffaCares, the safety-centric philanthropic arm of Jack Jaffa & Associates, creates a wide variety of safety initiatives several times a year, with the next initiative scheduled for Fall.

Through their work helping property owners stay compliant and violation free, the Jaffa employees are no strangers to ensuring that all New Yorkers have a safe roof over their head. But this past Sunday, they took it one step further and took part in the Ohel Xtreme Challenge Classic. Raising awareness and funds for OHEL’s work helping NY’s homeless, at risk and simply those who cannot fend for themselves, the JAFFA TEAM XTREME took a break from crushing violations and crushed the OHEL obstacle course instead.

The challenge took place on the beautiful Camp Kaylie campus in Wurtsboro, NY and featured a series of obstacles both Jaffa employees and family members tackled. And while the course was challenging, the Jaffa Team members recognized that it was in no way as challenging as the daily obstacles that face the individuals OHEL helps on a regular basis. Building upon the teamwork that is crucial part of the Jaffa culture and which allows them to be so effective in tracking, managing, and resolving their clients’ compliances and violations, the team trudged through mud, climbed over walls and completed various obstacles together; feeling exhausted, filthy and exhilarated at the end of the day. After a particularly grueling challenge, Jaffa COO, Michael Jaffa, commented “tackling challenges is what our team thrives on so today almost feels like a day in the office, just in with a new set of challenges, in a new environment, and towards a great cause”.

All who were a part of the event were honored for the opportunity to give back to the community they serve every day and were excited to have a day of good old fashioned fun!

Jaffa’s COO Michael Jaffa recently participated in the OJBA panel to discuss NYC building laws and compliance. He joined Deputy Commissioner Timothy E. Hogan on the panel and was honored to be part of this community of builders supporting each other. Addressing key issues in construction and how recent law changes can affect their projects, Michael was excited to share his expertise and help industry professionals stay compliant while joining in the mission of the Deputy Commissioner to keep the general public safe.
