Q: What are my requirements as a building owner in regards to Fire Safety?

JA: Fire safety is a crucial part of building ownership and management, and taking preventative safety measures can save lives and prevent substantial damage to your buildings.

As a NYC building owner, you are required to:

·        Ensure the Fire and Emergency Preparedness Notices are always present in each dwelling unit in your building, and that they are in good condition.

·        Obtain written confirmation from each tenant or apartment owner that the notice has been posted. To do this, deliver a form to each tenant, to be completed and returned to the building owner or board, that includes a statement from the FDNY regarding the notice, or, inspect each unit once every three years to confirm the presence and condition of the notice.
